Murray Newman was born and raised in Bryan, Texas. Graduating from Bryan High School in 1991, he attended Texas A&M University. During his time at Texas A&M, Murray worked as an academic intern for the Brazos County District Attorney's Office. After graduating from A&M with a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1995, Murray enrolled in the University of Houston Law Center.
During law school, Murray had the opportunity to clerk for the criminal defense firm Hinton, Sussman, Bailey & Davidson. Upon graduation from law school, Murray became an Assistant D.A. with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, under the leadership of legendary prosecutor, Johnny Holmes.
Over the next nine years at the D.A.'s Office, Murray prosecuted cases ranging from Driving While Intoxicated to Capital Murder. Rising to the level of Felony District Court Chief, he tried multiple complex and serious felony cases in jury trials. He left the District Attorney's Office for private practice in December of 2008.
Since founding the Law Office of Murray Newman, Murray has continued representing clients charged with crimes in the State of Texas in Harris, Galveston, Liberty, Ft. Bend, Waller, Grimes, Montgomery, and Brazos Counties. He has defended cases ranging from misdemeanors to Murder at trial. In addition to being licensed to practice law in the State of Texas, he is also licensed to practice in the Federal courts of the Southern District of Texas. He also serves as the legal consultant on the Oxygen Channel's Cold Justice starring former-Harris County prosecutor Kelly Siegler.
